Japantown Youth Leaders Fall Program Launches On September 13th, over 50 potential new participants joined the Japantown Youth Leaders (JYL) Fall Program launch event. The objectives of the JYL Fall Program are for youth to strengthen leadership skills, participate in service learning events, receive educational and college planning support, build community and have fun working with other youth! Meetings are held on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00pm at JCYC’s Pine Street Gym. All interested high school youth are encouraged to apply by contacting jyl@jcyc.org. Chibi Chan Too is Now Open Chibi Chan Too welcomed its first class of preschoolers on October 2nd at the newly renovated Booker T. Washington Community Service Center in San Francisco! Upward Bound’s 2017-2018 School Year Begins JCYC’s Upward Bound Program Fall Orientation welcomed the new school year at JCYC on September 18th! More than 60 students, along with their parent(s)/guardian(s), attended the event. Participants were excited after previewing the upcoming activities for the 2017-2018 school year. Learn more about Upward Bound by clicking here! MYEEP’s 10-Week Pre-Employment Training is Underway The program started back up on September 25th. It develops essential work skills for 9th and 10th graders by helping them discover their strengths and interests, while also managing the responsibilities of school and work at the same time. Successful completion of the program leads to a work placement in January 2018 (10 hours per week). Learn more about MYEEP by clicking here! Cash for College Workshops The Cash for College initiative is back! JCYC’s College Access Programs and uAspire’s “Cash for College Volunteer Training: Completing FAFSA/Dream Act” workshop went over the FAFSA and CA Dream Act with volunteers from a number of San Francisco community programs. These volunteers are now trained on the financial aid process and prepared to deliver upcoming Cash for College workshops!
