Excerpt from JCYC Up Close Spring 2018 Did you know that JCYC was officially incorporated on May 27, 1970? To commemorate this occasion, the organization will be launching its first ever Founder’s Day Campaign. JCYC is one of the best examples of what young people can accomplish. In the late 1960’s, a youthful Ron Kobata (now Minister of the Buddhist Church of San Francisco), led an effort to bring the youth groups of Japantown together. He had the foresight and vision to see that young people needed their own space to discuss issues of concern and promote collaboration. This effort would eventually lead to JCYC’s incorporation in 1970 with Ron serving as our first Executive Director. Today, we celebrate this vision and the power of allowing young people to determine both what they want and can give to the community. You can support our Founder’s Day Campaign 4 ways: 1. Designate a matching gift: For the many businesses that now offer to match the contributions of employees, we’d like you to look out for these valuable opportunities to double or sometimes even triple your charitable contribution to JCYC. 2. Make a payroll deduction from your employer: Some employers also allow employees to deduct charitable contributions directly from their paycheck. Please also look out for these opportunities at your workplace. 3. Consider a planned gift: JCYC has been the beneficiary of many planned or estate gifts. There are many ways of making a planned gift and some are relatively simple. When preparing an estate plan, please consider JCYC and definitely let us know about it! 4. Finally, you can always simply make a direct donation. We like those as well! Whatever you decide to do, we hope you’ll be a part of this special occasion. Few non-profit organizations were founded by youth and we think that’s an occasion to celebrate.
