Excerpt from JCYC Up Close Winter 2020 JCYC College Access Programs celebrated its 40th Anniversary at Pa’ina Restaurant & Lounge in San Francisco’s Japantown this past August! We were overjoyed to bring over 60 College Access alumni staff together to celebrate this important milestone. It was a special night where old and new faces connected and reconnected from each of College Access’s three core programs – Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound (federal TRIO programs), and San Francisco College Access   Center (state Cal-SOAP program). A few of our very special guests included Jeff Mori, former Executive Director of JCYC, under whose leadership JCYC received the first Talent Search/TRIO Program grant in 1979, and Dennis Chew, one of the original Asian American Communities for Education AACE) Advisors! In her welcoming speech, JCYC College Access Programs Department Director, Emalyn Lapus, briefly shared the history and growth of the programs. Furthermore, she talked about the expansion of College Access Programs outside of San Francisco - into Daly City, San Mateo and South San Francisco. Lastly, she expressed her enthusiasm and appreciation for the College Access staff alumni, who continued to pursue career paths in education. Emalyn was proud to lead this landmark event. According to Emalyn, “I was genuinely happy to see all the alumni staff. Each of them held a significant role that contributed to the success of JCYC’s College Access Programs to support thousands of low-income youth enroll and attend higher education programs.” To learn more about JCYC’s College Access programs visit https://jcyc.org.  Also, don’t forget to complete our JCYC 50th Form so we can keep you updated about JCYC’s momentous 50th Anniversary Celebration at San Francisco City Hall on Saturday, August, 22nd, 2020.
